Submitting a review for a business you frequent is easier than ever. Popular internet platforms like Yelp, Facebook, and Google allow you to seamlessly post reviews about your experience. In fact, posting a review is an important service. A fair and objective account can help a company refine its service. A review can also help other customers make informed decisions. Plus, platforms allow you to use stars in their rating system, which are every bit as important as the review you write.

To write a Yelp review, visit Once you are on the page, you will see a “Sign Up” button located in the upper right corner. Click on this button to create a Yelp account.

After you have clicked the “Sign Up” button, you will arrive at a page that will require you to enter your name, email address, password, etc. Once you enter this information, proceed to the next step by clicking the “Sign Up” button.

Once you have completed this step, you will receive an email in the inbox of the account you used to sign up. To confirm your account, open up the email and click the “Confirm Email” button.

Now you are ready to start posting reviews! To begin, navigate to the top part of the page, underneath the Yelp search bar. You will notice a tab that reads “Write Review.” Click this tab to arrive at the next page where you can search the business you want to review.

Once you arrive at the next page and input the business, the company’s name should pop up.  Click on the company name to write your review.

Before you press the “Post Review” button, be sure to click on the number of stars you wish to assign to the business to finalize your review. Yelp has a scale of 1 to 5 stars, 1 being the least satisfactory and 5 being the most satisfactory.

Open up your internet browser, type in If you do not have a Facebook account, you will have to create one to review a business. You can start by adding your information to this landing page.

Once you have put in your information, you will receive an email with a code.

Copy the code into the space of the Facebook page and hit “continue.” This will activate your account.

Once your Facebook account is activated, you will arrive at the home page. In the middle section of the page, you will see a search bar. Input the business you wish to review and click “Enter.”

Select your business of choice. Once you arrive at the company’s Facebook page, you will see a panel on the left side with the question: “Do you recommend *this business*?”

Click “yes,” and a small pop-up screen will appear where you can write your review that looks like this:

Once you have finished your review, click “Post” in the bottom right corner and boom! Your first Facebook review has been submitted.

Google Reviews

To leave a Google review, visit Enter the business you wish to review in the search bar. After you enter the business and select “Google Search,” the search engine will return a list of results with your company of choice appearing in a panel on the right side of the page.

Next, you must select the “Write Review” button at the bottom of the panel.

If you do not have a Google account, you will be asked to create one after you click the “Write a review” button.

To continue, select “Create Account.” Once you choose this option, you will select “For Myself.”

From there, you will enter your information, create a unique username, and select “Next.” Once you complete these steps, you will receive a confirmation email in the account you entered. When you open the email to confirm your account, you will be returned to the first screen. From there, you will select “Write a review.”

Then, a pop-up screen labeled “Rate and review” will appear.

To start, select the number of stars you wish to assign to the business. Please note that Google’s star system is similar to Yelp’s with 1 being the least satisfactory and 5 being the most satisfactory.

Once you type up your review, click “Post.”

Important: Please note that when writing reviews for these and other platforms, it is best that you are honest and constructive about your encounter. You should post reviews that are specific and objective. In your review include details about your experience, such as the level of customer service, the company environment, and your overall impression. You can also update your review as needed.

Please be mindful that when you post reviews on popular internet sites, what you write is viewable and searchable to the general public. Family, friends, and professional acquaintances may be able to see what you post, particularly if they have accounts with certain sites. Thus, you will want to refrain from using obscene language and/or resorting to personal attacks in your reviews. Any of these can leave a negative impression. You will also want to leave out web links and personal information like names. Following these practices will allow you to write reviews that fairly and accurately reflect your experiences.
